Zhong Wei

Beijing-based artist Zhong Wei strives to capture the textures of human existence via studying the evolving visual language of contemporary information culture. Contemplating the invasion of technology in 21st century living and its influence on transhumanism, his artworks depict technology as organic, anthropomorphic, even monstrous entities, composed using references to digital interfaces and elements such as codes, memes, and emoticons. Inspired by the unabated development of accelerationist technology, beginning from the invention of the Internet to the now popularization of artificial intelligence, Zhong Wei speculates the power struggle between man and man-made machines and questions the implication of this dynamic for both artists and society at-large.
